WVSU Men’s Basketball Prepares for Rivalry Game Against UC

With its six-game winning streak snapped Wednesday by Glenville State, the State men’s basketball is preparing to square off Sunday at home against the University of Charleston.

The tip-off is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. in the Walker Convocation Center. AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh will televise the game live, and WVMetroNews.com and MountainEast.TV/WVSU will stream the game live. The State women (7-10, 5-6) will face UC (13-4, 8-3) at 1:05 p.m.

Yellow Jacket coach Bryan Poore said games against rival UC are always intense and emotional.

“I am sure it will be a great atmosphere, and we certainly hope our students are out in full force,” said Poore, who added that State will need to play one its best games of the year.

“I am sure our guys will be ready to step up to the challenge,” Poore said.

In State’s 107-97 home loss against Glenville State, junior forward Jeremiah Moore recorded a career-high 27 points. Contributing were Glen Abram with 23 points and Michal Seals with 19 points.

State’s overall record is 12-4 and 7-4 in the Mountain East Conference (MEC).

The Yellow Jackets and Golden Eagles are two of the top four teams in the MEC standings.

UC’s Golden Eagles built their winning streak to double digits Wednesday, when they blew out the Concord University Mountain Lions 91-67. The Golden Eagles are now 15-2 in the season, 9-2 in the MEC and a No. 21 ranking in the nation.
