WVSU Volleyball Fall Season Cancelled

State’s volleyball team’s season has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The volleyball team, which finished 21-14 in the 2019 season, will not be playing in the 2020 Fall season.

Instead, their season, along with football,  will take place during the 2021 spring semester. The special part about the 2021 spring season is that it will not count as a year of eligibility for the athletes participating.

This is because athletes have the option to opt out and sit out this year if they feel unsafe because of COVID-19. Players on the volleyball team who haven’t opted out have begun training for the upcoming season in the spring with their coaches on limited hours per week.

All athletes are required to wear a mask while working out with the team and must bring their own drinks to practice because trainers and coaches are not allowed to give out water during workouts.

This rule was put in place to try and slow the spread of COVID-19 between athletes while practicing and being in close contact.
