Brandon Martinez and Miranda Dixon were elected President and Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA).
Only two offices were contested. Most SGA racs were uncontested, except for the top of the ticket and Mr. State. Despite SGA extending the candidate filing period until March 2, no student candidates filed to run for Mr. Junior, Mr. and Ms. Senior, Freshman Senator and Senator of Professional Studies. These positions will be elected in the Fall 2018 semester along with Freshman King and Queen.
An SGA spokesperson said slightly less than 10 percent of the student population voted in the elections. “This is fairly consistent with last year’s voter turn out,” a SGA spokesman said.
SGA declined to release the total numbers of votes each candidate received, including president and vice president, because “providing the total number of votes recieved by each candidate could potentially lead to attempts to determine who casted votes for which candidates.”
The other results in voting Monday and Tuesday:
- Baigen Seawell, current SGA Vice President, was elected Board of Governors Representative. Seawell ran unopposed.
- Cedrick Farmer and Angelica Willis were elected Mr. and Ms. State, respectively. Willis ran unopposed.
- Noah Phillips and Regina Maxwell were elected as Mr. and Ms. Sophomore, respectively. Both ran unopposed.
- Keyona Thomas was elected as Sophomore Senator. Thomas ran unopposed.
- Embreya Ballard was elected as Ms. Junior. Ballard ran unopposed.
Candidates-elect begin their terms in the fall.
