WVSU women’s basketball team isn’t having the season the members expected, but hopes are still high for the MEC tournament.
At 9-17 (7-13 in the MEC), the Yellow Jackets are already improved from last year, when they were 8-22. The State women lost 84-76 Saturday to Notre Dame College in the last home game of the season.
Sierra Womack, a sophomore from Milton, explained what the team’s goal is as the end of the season nears.
When asked about what the team’s mindset in practice, she explained, “I would say we come in trying to get better and work hard, but we have to mentally prepare ourselves more than anything.”
The last two games are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Concord and Saturday, Feb. 29, at the University of Charleston.
“The ultimate goal at the end for us is to make the MEC tournament,” Womack said.
The MEC tournament starts March 4 at Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling.
