State will well represented in the Charleston Charleston’s annual Public Courts Tennis Tournament Saturday.
Two-time MEC Player of the Year Laura Isbey looks to defend her title in the Women’s Open Singles draw from last year. Isbey was named the one seed for the draw. Sophomore Sydney Miller is also in the Women’s Open Singles draw.
Isbey partners with rising junior Kierstin Hensley in the Women’s Open Doubles draw. Senior Kayla McKnight is teamed with sophomore Grazi Preterotto.
Hensley was also named the one seed for the Mixed Open Doubles event where she will partner with her boyfriend Matthew Eastham of Ashland, Ky. Miller is also playing Mixed Open Doubles with her boyfriend, Jason Prince.
Former WVSU standout Brittany Franco in the draw, competing in the Women’s Open Singles draw, and Mixed Open Doubles and partnering with Chris Ritchie of Charleston.
The Men’s Tennis team had several current and former players compete as well.
Rising Seniors Ethan Cross and Noah Fulks will team up to compete in the Mens 8.5 Combination Doubles event, the third time in four years the duo have played together.
Cross will also compete in 4.0 singles, while Fulks plays in 4.5 singles.
Former players Jacob Stanley will play in 8.0 Mixed Combination Doubles with Sharon Seidler, and alumni Caleb Starkey will play in 4.0 doubles with Summer Cook.
“I’m excited for Public Courts this year,” Cross said. “It’s always great getting to watch some great tennis during the week and getting to play in front of so many people. It’s exciting to see so many current and former players that come out and play — a great showing for WVSU Tennis.”
