Women Crush Fairmont rally
There ‘s no quit in State.
It’s an old sports adage but an accurate one describing the Yellow Jacket women in a 77-71 road win over Fairmont Saturday. The Falcons closed to 68-66 with just over two minutes left. State had a 12-point advantage the third.
Then a trio of Jackets held off the Fairmont rally.
Alexandra Jackson stole the ball, was fouled and then made both free throws. Amari Grace followed with a 3-pointer after a Falcon miss. Then senior Aurreeshae Hines stripped a Falcon and was fouled. She sank her free throws and WVSU was back in control.
Hines finished with 24 points, Jackson added 13, and Grace 12 to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Men beaten by Fairmont
The WVSU men fell 94-81 in the second game. Pat Johnson-Agwu and Jeremiah Moore had 17 points each to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Women’s tennis team 2-0
The MEC champion WVSU women’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over Davis & Elkins Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the spring and 12-0 on the year. The men’s squad dropped a hard fought 8-1 decision to the Senators with Ethan Cross and Zach Fraley picking up a doubles win.
Softball team wins 10-6
The WVSU softball team defeated West Chester 10-6 Sunday in Myrtle Beach. Brittany Allison and Kayleigh Thompson each drove in three runs to lead the Yellow Jackets.
