Huge Second Quarter Propels State to win over Glenville

A 17 point second quarter propelled the Yellow Jackets past the Glenville State Pioneers 31-17 Saturday for State’s second MEC win.

​After a scoreless first quarter, Glenville struck first with J’Quan Anderson connecting with Mario Pender on a 35-yard touchdown pass. 

​State rebounded with quarterback Faustino Saucedo hitting Tyrell Henderson from 66 yards out, followed by an Aaron Ball 47-yard field goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 10-7 lead.

​Saucedo connected with Henderson once more in the second quarter, with 45 seconds left, and from 26 yards out to take a 17-7 lead heading into halftime. 

​Carl Gamon punched in another touchdown for the Yellow Jackets from 1-yard out, putting State up 24-7. 

​Glenville retaliated with Gary Bacon catching a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jaylen McNair, and kicker Justin Watts sending a 25 yard field goal through the uprights to bring the Pioneers within seven, down 24-17. 

​Calil Wilkins put the game out of reach with just over a minute left, scoring from 1-yard out. 

​Faustino Saucedo went 19 of 33 on his passing attempts, for 285 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. 

​Calil Wilkins led all rushers with 102 yards and a touchdown, while Dylan Lucas added 51 yards. 

​Tyrell Henderson led all receivers with seven receptions for 171 yards, and two touchdowns, while Zach Pate had five receptions for 65 yards, and A.J. Barrette caught four receptions for 39 yards. 

​State outgained Glenville in total yards 458 to 311. 

​State moves to 2-3 overall on the season, while Glenville drops to 1-4. 

​The Yellow Jackets return home Saturday Oct. 6, where they’ll host Kentucky State in the 2018 Homecoming Game.
