It was not an easy one for the Yellow Jackets in the Walker Convocation Center this past Thursday. It has been stated before the most dangerous teams are those that have nothing to lose. This game was no exception.
The Pioneers blew up with a 7 point lead to start the game. This culminating within the first minute and a half of the game. The game was back and forth after that. The Yellow Jackets tied the score twice a little past halfway in the first half.
After that though, Glenville was off to the races. Stretching the lead to 18 twice for the remainder of the half. Once off a fast break with 2:23 left and another with :36 remaining in the half. The Pioneers ended the first half with Ely Brooks leading the charge. Brooks was perfect from inside the arch, outside of the arch, and from the freethrow line. With four rebounds, one offensive and three defensive, to top it off. The Yellow Jackets were lead by by Glen Abram with seven total points and two steals.
The Yellow Jackets next two games will be on the road. One against the Bobcats of Wesleyan followed by a trip to the number five team in the land, West Liberty. They will be back at Walker for Senior Day against the second place team in the conference, Wheeling Jesuit. Tip-off is set for February 10th at 4 p.m.
The second half wasn’t different from the first. Glenville held it’s biggest lead of 20 points five different times throughout the half. The Yellow Jacket rallied back to get the lead within 11 points with 6:33 left in the game. But with so much ground to cover and not that much time left in the game.
The six game win streak of the Yellow Jackets was over with a final score of 92-79. The leading scorer for the Pioneers would be Ely Brooks. Going perfect from the free throw line, two-point range and three point range. Brooks finished with 22 total points and 10 rebounds earning him a double-double. There were also four other Pioneers with double digit points.
Pat Johnson-Agwu finished also with a double-double. 12 rebounds and 21 totals points. Leading the team in scoring and going eight for 15 inside the arch and five for seven from the free throw line. Two other Yellow Jackets finished with double digit scoring.
