Women’s Tennis Team Await NCAA Bid; Men’s Tournament Hopes End

In a battle of the top NCAA DII Atlantic Region Women’s Tennis Teams, the Yellow Jackets were topped by UIP 8-1.

#24 NCAA DII doubles duo Nina Dillwald and KierstinHensley were topped at #1 doubles 8-6, while Laura Isbey and Kayla McKnight were handed an 8-1 setback at #2 doubles. Freshman Sydney Miller and Hanna Kantsavaya dropped their match at #3 doubles 8-2.

#71 NCAA DII Women’s Singles player Laura Isbey was handed a 6-2, 6-4 setback at #1 singles.

Kierstin Hensley scored the lone win of the day with a 6-0, 6-3 win at #2 singles.

Senior Nina Dillwald took the first set of her senior day match 6-4, before dropping the next two sets 6-3, 6-2.

Kantsavaya lost her match at #4 singles 6-0, 6-0. McKnight lost at #5 singles 6-2, 6-4, and Nika Tadic lost her match at #6 singles 6-4, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets now wait until Selection Sunday to see whether or not they will play host to an Atlantic Regional Tournament.


A short-handed men’s tennis team dropped an important conference match with UVA-Wise 6-3 and officially had their MEC Tournament hopes ended.

The Yellow Jackets would race to a 2-1 lead after doubles action with seniors Caleb Starkey and Baylee VanKirk taking #1 doubles 8-6, and #3 doubles of Ethan Cross and Nick Fraley winning 8-5.

#2 Doubles of Dylan Jayasuriya and Noah Fulks were unable to find a rhythm in the strong wins and dropped their match 8-4.

In singles action Starkey dropped his match at #1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Fulks would drop his first set 6-3 at #2 singles before tying it all up at 3-3 in the second set.  Dexoite having game points in the final three games of the set he would lose 6-3.

Cross would drop his match at #3 singles 6-3.

Dylan Jayasuryia would pick up a singles win at #4 singles for the Yellow Jackets winning 6-4, 7-5 at #4 singles, his team leading sixth singles win of the season.

Baylee VanKirk would hold a 5-4 lead in his first set at #5 singles, before dropping the set 7-5, and his dropping his second set 6-4.

Fraley would close out the day with a 6-1, 6-1 setback at #6 singles.
