The reward for a strong conference finish earned the women’s basketball team a 3 seed in the Mountain East Conference Thursday. They face 6th seed Wheeling Jesuit at 2:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
The winner plays the winner of the Notre Dame and either UC or Urbana in the semi-finals at 2:15 Saturday.
State won their last three games, including a 64-62 overtime win at UC Saturday, on the way to a 13-9 regular season record.
The Yellow Jackets lost at Wheeling 86-54 in early January. On Feb. 10, they beat Jesuit 83-73 at home.
Senior Aurreshea Hines, the third leading scorer all time at State and first team all MEC, leads State with a average of 16.8 points per game. Jasmine Davis brings a 13.8 scoring average into the game.
State scored an average of 75 points per game, including nine 3-pointers per game. The team shoots 72 percent from the foul line.
