State enters the Mountain East Conference Wednesday evening as the 8 seed and plays 9 seed West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip-off is 8:15 at the Charleston Civic Center.
The teams split their two matches in the regular season. The winner faces #1 seed West Liberty in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m.
Coach Brian Poore said it’s importsnt that State control the tempo of the game. “We’ll need to attack their zone and make some shots to set up our press,” he said.
The Yellow Jackets are led by 6-foot-5 junior forward Pat Johnson-Agwu. The Bowie, Maryland, native is averaging teams highs of 18.9 points a game, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and a .597 shooting percentage
Junior guard Ernest Jenkins and senior Robert Fomby have both averaged 12.4 points with Fomby second on the squad in rebounding averaging 7.2. Jeremiah Moore, a 6-6 freshman, is averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.
