Slow Start Marks State’s Final Game With Shepherd

Perennial foe Shepherd prevailed for the 38th time Saturday as State was downed by the Rams 27-7.

​State started slow, held to 49 yards in the first half. Shepherd built a 27-0 halfway through the third quarter, with quarterback Tyson Bagent throwing two touchdown passes, and Deonte Glover scoring a touchdown run. Shepherd Kicker Hayden August-Scriven added two field goals to build the lead.

​Yellow Jacket Quarterback Faustino Saucedo connected with Zach Pate for a 46 yard touchdown pass to give State their lone  score of the game.

​Saucedo went 16 of 25 for 244 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

​Running Back Calil Wilkins had 19 carries for 75 yards, while Reciever Zach Pate had 4 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown.

​The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Glenville State, a game that the Yellow Jackets won in 2017 34-28. 

​The Yellow Jackets currently are 10th in the conference with an overall record of 1-3. Quarterback Faustino Saucedo has completed 59 of 90 passes through four games, with 785 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Running Back Calil Wilkins is currently third in the conference with 576 yards and four touchdowns. Tyrell Henderson is currently the top receiver for the Yellow Jackets with 26 receptions, 366 yards, and three touchdowns. Zach Pate is one reception behind Henderson with 25, for 339 yards and a touchdown.
