The Yellow Jackets men’s tennis team competed at the PTR Spring Tennisfest at Hilton Head, South Carolina from March 2nd through the sixth.

#1 Doubles of Ryan Mullins and Noah Fulks raced to a 4-0 lead before finishing the match off 6-2. After the #3 doubles pairing of Zack Fraley and Adam Walters dropped their match 6-3, the fate of the doubles point was on #2 doubles of Dylan Jayasuriya and Ethan Cross.

After being up 4-0 in their match, the duo dropped their match 7-5 as State headed into singles down 1-0.

Mullins knotted the match up at 1-1 after a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 singles.

Jayasuriya put State ahead 2-1 after winning 6-3, 6-2 at #3 singles.

Both Ethan Cross dropped their matches at #5 and #6 singles putting State behind 3-2.

State was trounced by both Lenoir Rhyne and Edinboro 7-0. The lone highlights of the matches were Mullins who was competitive in both of his #1 singles matches against the stiffer competition.

“It was a great feeling getting some wins and playing good for my first Hilton Head trip,” Mullins said. “I loved everything about the Hilton Head trip, we all seemed to have a great time despite the losses.”

State returns to the courts on March 24th when they travel to Bluefield, Va. when they face Bluefield College.
