State Group will Roll to Washington during Weekend

At 5 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 51 State students and five chaperones are scheduled to depart on a bus for Washington, D.C.

Up to 70 people are welcome to join the group, according to Trina Sweeney, Student Life and Engagement director at State. All tickets are free, and they also are available to people who want to drive to Washington.

The bus is scheduled arrive in Washington about noon. Bagged breakfast sandwiches will be provided, as well as lunch at Sweet Home Café and dinner at Golden Corral, she said.

Upon arrival, the group will go to the National Museum of African American History & Culture and the Smithsonian Museum.

Sweeney said she wants the trip to be a learning experience for students and enlightening to students who have never been outside of West Virginia or haven’t seen the history of our nation. A diverse group will travel to Washington, and WVSU will be represented in a positive and well-rounded way, Sweeney said.

Students should expect to arrive at WVSU around 12:30 or 1 a.m. Monday, she said.
