Meet 21-year–old sophomore Brandon Martinez, the new SGA president. He is adamant about uniting the campus and helping students be connected to college life.
“Sometimes students complain that there is nothing to do on campus,” Martinez said. “But I believe there is something here for everyone.”
He and vice president–elect Miranda Dixon based their campaign on goals and stances on issues. “You serve and work. The work ethic will speak for itself. I will show them,” the criminal justice major said.
His goal is to cultivate community at the school. Enhance the university experience. “I would like to see more faculty and staff attend extracurricular activities. Our teachers need to be more visible.”
Brandon said when he first came to WVSU, his attitude was “less than presidential.” Under the guidance of positive influences, including Trina Sweeney, Director of Campus Life for the Office of Student Life and Engagement and Sharon Banks, Adjunct Professor and Director of Advisement Programs, he has transformed his life. Wants to inspire others to do the same.
“Your self-worth is determined by you,” Brandon said. “You don’t have to depend on someone telling you who you are.”
