Her favorite things about State are the atmosphere, the Starbucks and the wraps in the Union, says freshman Megan Altmann.
She chose to attend State because it is close to home. “My mother went here. i’ve always heard good things about State,” Altmann said. “I also prefer a smaller, more tight-knit community.”
The communications major works part-time at Panera Bread, and spends her free time playing the harmonica or spending time with her girlfriend.
Although Altmann isn’t sure about her future plans, she’s open to new things. “This is only the second semester of my first year so I’m discovering things that enhance my thoughts for the future.”
She’s considering a career in Public Relations. “This semester has been really good,” Altmann said. “I’ve had a good time getting to know people and working hard to keep up with all my classes.”
“The hardest part about adjusting to college life was the independence. It sounds silly but college is so much different than high school in that aspect,” Altmann said. “It’s such a fast adjustment and you think you’re ready, but you’re not.”
Altmann says her advice to upcoming freshman is it’s okay to be nervous. “It’s going to be tough and scary at times, but you’ll be a better and wiser person. It’s all about a positive mindset and having a good support system,” she said.
