The State community came together Thursday to honor the legacy and memory of Katherine Johnson, holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue that honors her.
The statue, designed by artist and 1989 grad Frederick Hightower, was erected in her honor a year ago. Johnson visited it during her lifetime.
Several people spoke about Johnson before President Jenkins and First Lady Toinette Jenkins laid the wreath at the foot of the statue.
