Construction on a new tower water monument by 2020 will depend on funding, according to university officials
For now, the still imposing container sits in the physical facility parking lot where it will stay until the new tank is reconstructed. The concrete base is still there. State aims to put the cylinder back on the existing foundation. It will stand more than 20 feet.
According to Jack Bailey, the assistant vice president of communications and marketing, the plan is to have the monument up before 2020. That’s when the tower was placed at its present location in 1920.
There is no set time when the new tower base will be constructed. “It’s still in the planning stages and will be determined by time, funds, and future availability,” Bailey said.
A plaque will be erected with the renovated tank to represent its significance and history.
