Lady Yellow Jackets Win at Home over Urbana

By Noah Fulks – Despite a slow start, the WVSU Lady Yellow Jackets Women’s Basketball would top the Urbana Blue Knights 87-74 in a home basketball game.

The Blue Knights would lead 25-20 after the first quarter, but Head Coach Charles Marshall’s squad would have a strong second quarter and take a 50-39 halftime lead.

The Lady Yellow Jackets never looked back and would extend their lead to 64-51 after the third quarter. Each team would score 23 points in the third quarter, but the Lady Yellow Jackets would hang on for a strong Mountain East Conference win.

The Lady Yellow Jackets would show their strength with a balanced scoring attack that saw five players score in double figures. Jasmine Davis led the way with 20 points, Amari Grace had 17, Shae Hines scored 15, Jordan Miller added 11, and Alexandra Jackson dropped in 10.

Sylvia Hudson led the Blue Knights with 16 points, Stefanie Davis added 15, and Megan Beachy scored 13.

The Lady Yellow Jackets now stand at 8-12, 8-6 MEC, while Urbana sits at 10-8, 8-6 MEC.

The win moved the Lady Yellow Jackets into tied for third place in Mountain East Conference standings with Urbana and West Liberty.
