WVSU Student-Athletes Succeed on Field of Play; and in the Classroom

After a successful fall athletic season that saw the Yellow Jacket football team finish with their second consecutive winning season, and volleyball eclipse 25 wins, the State Student-Athletes backed up their athletic success, with Success in the classroom.

15 Yellow Jacket student-athletes made the MEC All-Academic Team with G.P.A’s ranging from 3.7-4.0.

From the Yellow Jacket football team Anthony Cassillas, Aaron Fitzwater, Jake Harms, Peyton Lunsford, and Adam Suruy all qualified for this team.

Representing the State volleyball team on the MEC All-Academic team was Edwina Barrett, Jenna Dufresne, Hailey Fuller, and Grace Martin.

State’s women’s cross country team also saw five runners place on the MEC All-Academic team with Brittany Adkins Yarber, Natalie Armstrong, Nicole Armstrong, Fatima Irfan, and Sierra Womack qualifying for the team.

State would also see numerous student-athletes named to the MEC Commissioners Honor Roll, which is for student-athletes with G.P.A.’s between 3.2-3.69.

12 members of the Yellow Jacket football team qualified for the MEC Commissioners Honor Roll, while nine volleyball players made the honor roll.
