WVSU NAACP Chapter Has New Advisor

The West Virginia State University chapter of the NAACP has a new advisor – Natasha Tyson.

Oree Banks was the chapter’s advisor for 41 years (1978-2019), according to Sharon Banks, director, Advisement Programs and adjunct professor at State. Banks said the WVSU Chapter has been one of longest serving college chapters.

Tyson, executive administrative assistant for Business and Finance, has big shoes to fill. She said she and the members have great vision for NAACP. She said all of the events and community service the NAACP has done in the past will continue.

The WVSU NAACP Chapter hopes to plan a gala on campus and get involved in new projects working with the community.

Nicole Smith, secretary of the WVSU NAACP chapter, said the chapter plans to become more active on and off campus.

“NAACP means unity to me. It means people of color coming together to make a better community,” Smith said.
