Women’s Tennis Roll Past Salem International, 9-0

The Women’s Tennis Team rolled past Salem International with an easy 9-0 win Sunday. The Yellow Jackets lost five games of the nine total matches.

​The #25 doubles team in the country of Kierstin Hensley and Nina Dillwald cruised to an 8-2 win at #1 doubles past Kristina Vuksanovic and Anna Kovalova. Laura Isbey and Hannah Kontsavaya at #2 doubles and Kayla McKnight and Grazielle Pretterotto stormed to 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles.

​Laura Isbey continued her impressive junior campaign with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles. Kierstin Hensley picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles, Nina Dillwald won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles. Hannah Kontsavaya, Kayla McKnight, and Sydney Miller all won 6-0, 6-0 in the singles matches to close the match out.


Men’s Tennis Fall to Salem International, 8-1.

Noah Fulks and Dylan Jayasuriya dropped a tough 8-0 match at #1 doubles, Jake Stanley and Zach Fraley lost 8-1 at #2 doubles, and Adam Walters and Baylee VanKirk lost 8-1 at #3 doubles.

Caleb Starkey lost 6-1, 6-1 at #1 singles, Noah Fulks lost 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles, Ethan Cross dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at #3 singles, Jake Stanley lost 6-1, 6-2 at #5 singles, and Nick Fraley lost 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles.

The lone bright spot for the Yellow Jackets was Dylan Jayasuriya at #4 singles. Jayasuriya won his first set 6-2, before dropping his second set 6-0. Jayasuriya would move to a super tiebreaker for the match and build up a 7-2 lead before taking a 10-7 win in the super tiebreaker. Jayasuriya’s win is the third singles win of his college career, and the first singles win for the Men’s team in the 2017-2018 seasons.

“It feels amazing,” Jayasuriya said. “I play tennis for those moments. The whole match I was getting pumped up but trying to calm myself down. I tried to play my game and wait for him to make a mistake. Fortunately for me he lost his cool in the tiebreaker.”
