Jackets Clinch MEC Softball Tournament Spot With Sweep of Fairmont

The State softball team clinched a spot in the Mountain East Conference tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Fairmont State Friday in Institute.

The pitching of Emily Moore, Emily Thompson and Calli Norton led WVSU to a softball sweep of visiting Fairmont State Friday by score of 5-1 and 3-1. Moore scattered four hits in going the distance in game one.

Thompson went six innings with Norton getting the save in game two.

Brittany Allison had half of State’s hits with a 3-for-3 performance and Brookelyn Hale, Moore and Danielle Lebsock drove in a run each in the in the first game.

In the second game, Callie Huck and Lebsock drove in runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and give State (30-18, 18-12 MEC) a 3-1 victory.

The Yellow Jackets will play in the tournament next week in Salem, Virginia.
