Health Center Won’t Turn Away Students Lacking Insurance Or Needing Urgent Care

You can afford health care again. And it’s as close as the student union. The next time you are feeling under the weather, have a health concern or need a flu shot, head to the Family Care Health Center.

If you need a Primary Care visit or lab work, call to schedule an appointment.

Dr. Sarah Knight heads the health facility downstairs at Wilson. She said Family Care offers woman’s services as well. Keep up on your annual pap smear and referrals for mammograms.

Family planning is offered and made affordable or free for the uninsured. Lab work and STD testing is available and processed by Labcorp. (Depending on your insurance you may receive a bill from Labcorp.)

Most insurances are accepted, including a WV Medicaid, Medicare, PEIA, CHIP, Tricare. There may be a copay based on the insurance you have.

Dr. Knight said Family Care promises no one will be turned away or denied urgent care because they cannot pay. For the uninsured, there is an income based sliding fee scale. The average student working part time without insurance pays about $15.

The Family Health Care Center is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. closed for lunch 12-12:30 p.m. and the 1st Wednesday at 1 p.m. of the month.
