Concord’s Bolte scores 49 in close State loss; Women win with 14 three-pointers

State nearly broke its losing streak but then the MEC scoring leader Tommy Bolte of Concord exploded for 49 points in a 95-91 loss Wednesday.

State led 91-88 with 1:25 left in the second half but was outscored 7-0 the rest of the way in falling to 12-14 overall and 10-11 in the MEC. The Yellow Jackets have lost seven games in a row.

Bolte hit a free throw for Concord (15-12, 11-10), Jafar Musa tied the game at 91 on a lay-up with 55 seconds left, and Bolte hit four free throws to sew it up.

Pat Johnson-Agwu had a double-double (29 points, 13 rebounds) for State, Robert Fomby added 18 points.

The last regular season game is Saturday at UC.


The State women connected on 14 of 38 3-pointers in a 90-68 victory over Concord Wednesday, their 8th win in the last 12 games. Going into the final game against UC, the women Jackets are (12-15, 12-9 MEC).

Five players had double figures. Jasmine Davis had 21 points, on 5 for 9 treys.   Aurreshae Hines had 16 points and Amari Grace  15.  Alexandria Jackson and Jordan Miller each had 10 points.
